On this conservation school tour your students will work with sea turtles as well as enjoying time in nature including snorkelling and hiking.
On this school tour, students will travel to Greece to help turtle hatchlings find their way to the water for the first time as well as snorkelling.
Day 1: Arrive in Greece
Your school will arrive at Kefalonia Airport, where you’ll meet your leader who will be with you for the duration of your expedition. Once you’ve settled in at the campsite, you’ll have an orientation discussion about what to expect from the island, planned activities and our project work.
Day 2: Orientation and Training
Learn from the best! Start the day with our comprehensive health and safety briefing. Then our project partners, Wildlife Sense, will train you on how to work with turtles, the ecology and habitat of the island, and the impact of climate change on the environment. They also take you down to the beach for your specialist snorkelling training – practice makes perfect.
Day 3: Protecting Turtle Nests
An early start as we head down to the beach to find and protect sea turtle nests. Once a nest has been located, we mark and measure them, and make sure they are protected from potential damage. As we work, we also look out for and collect any litter from the beach.

The island is home to vital sea turtle nesting sites, and you’ll spend a lot of your time on the beach or in the water swimming and snorkelling. Whether you’re helping turtle hatchlings find their way to the water for the first time, snorkelling across sea meadows, or spending time exploring the food, fun and festivities across the island's many beaches, natural parks, and historical sites,
Dive into another survey! Seagrass meadows are an important ecosystem, providing habitats and nursery grounds for many marine animals, including sea turtles, monk seals and several types of fish. They are also a larger carbon sink than terrestrial rainforests, and play a critical role in mitigating climate change. Collecting data on them is an important part of monitoring the health of our oceans. Our focus areas are the coastal and nearshore marine zones near Argostoli.
From sea to summit! Over the next two days, we’ll explore several trails leading through the breathtaking local national park and up to various peaks offering stunning views of the island and the Ionian Sea. As we go, we’ll be able to observe local biodiversity first hand, getting to know all kinds of indigenous plant and animal species.
