To -san or not to -san? Learning the Japanese language can be tricky. It is an intricate language with many quirks. This multi-destination trip will take your students to Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto and Hiroshima and is jam-packed with authentic Japanese cultural experiences.
With a focus on learning and language, students will be exposed to the Japanese language through various interactions with Japanese locals. From things as simple as trying to order their evening meal in Japanese, to conversing with guides and locals in Japanese, your students will be encouraged to develop and use their Japanese. Students will experience Japanese life with visits to Mt. Fuji, a trip on a bullet train and a chance to see the bright lights of Tokyo.
DAY 1: TRAVEL DAY
DAY 2: ASAKURA, HARAJUKU AND AKIHABARA
Visit Asakusa which is the centre of Tokyo past and visit Sensoji, a Buddhist temple built in the 7th century. Visit Harajuku, Tokyo’s main shopping area. Travel on to the electronics district of Akihabara and check out many of the shops devoted to anime and manga, the centre of Japan’s otaku (おたく/オタク) culture.
DAY 3: MT FUJI AND HAKONE
Today you will take a tour up to Mt Fuji and Hakone. Travel to Mt Fuji’s 5th Station at 2,300 metres, cruise on the beautiful Lake Ashi and ride on the Komagatake Ropeway with stunning views of Hakone National Park.

Osaka Castle (also known as Osakajo) is a famous Japanese landmark. Built-in 1583, this castle is steeped in Japanese history. The central tower of Osaka Castle is built on two raised platforms of landfill supported by sheer walls of cut rock, using a technique called Burdock piling, each overlooking a moat. The central castle building is five stories on the outside and eight stories on the inside and built atop a tall stone foundation to protect its occupants from attackers. You'll learn all about the history of this through beautiful Osaka.
Fuji-San is Japan’s tallest mountain and an active volcano. Considered sacred, this mountain is a pilgrimage site for many. It is popular for hiking and is well-known for its iconic shape - some consider it perfectly symmetrical. The Fuji Subaru Line 5th Station is a popular spot for viewing the magnificent mountain, At 2300 metres above sea level, you will have unobstructed views across the Fuji Five Lakes area. Don’t forget to check out the Komitake Shrine (The shrine worshipping a long-nosed goblin, Tengu) while you’re there.
Enjoy a full-day tour of the world's most populous metropolis, Tokyo. The city’s history is best appreciated through its many districts such as Asakusa. Touring around the city ensures you’re able to see Old Tokyo and key sites of historical significance such as the Sensoji Temple. Gaze up at the famous Tokyo Skytree and appreciate the contrast between old and new architecture in this ever-changing metropolis.
