Over the Easter break three of our NZ schools took very different trips that allowed them to explore both their home country and as far afield destinations such as San Francisco and Orlando! So come and discover what their personal and educational learning experiences were.
Trip 1: School: Tauranga Girl's College | Destination: South Island NZ inc Tekapo, Christchurch and Queenstown
By visiting Aoraki and Mt Cook the girls learnt about the land they come from and how we as humans impact the natural world, not only was the landscape beautiful and dramatic enough to keep the children engaged but their love of the landscape helped them to understand the important issues of climate change on the environment. Tekapo Hot Springs added a fun and relaxing element for both students and teachers.
Glacier Explorer Tour - glacial encounter where you will cruise the rapidly growing terminal lake whilst taking in spectacular mountain views and scenery. It was incredible to allow the students to explore their home-land habitat with a guided tour like this. We viewed the Tasman Glacier Ice from a safe distance and saw icebergs of all shapes and sizes.
Queenstown it was good to have a mix of activities and Fear Factory was very fun for the girls and added a surprise element to the trip. With so many adventurous activities the children had so many choices! As a group we all enjoyed the spectacular views of the lake and mountains from the Earnslaw Steam Ship ride and after that we took a ride up to the top of Skyline on the Gondola! Then had a good hour of competitive races down the different Luge tracks.
The tour of Christchurch was both moving and educationally interesting as the children learnt about the cities vibrant past, the earthquakes that had the devastating impact on the people and what the future holds.
Why did Tauranga Girl's College pick EA School Tours?
"Teachers and pupils had an amazing time thanks to your fantastic planning" "Our dinner's were just outstanding!!!"
"Glacier Explorer brilliant. Great to actually have a walk and get outdoors. Senses alert - we saw, touched, tasted, heard rocks/ice falling etc."
"Our tour-guide went above and beyond"
Trip 2: School: Wellington College | Destination: Orlando Florida inc Kennedy Space Center Camp, Universal studios
Teacher quote: "We had a wonderful time and Kara our rep was so hard-working, the boys loved her. often going directly to Kara to ask questions so that helped the teachers a lot. Went above and beyond, for example she bought chicken soup for one of our sick children" Rachael Anderson, Head of trip for Wellington College
Space Camp the mission robotics and space investigation was so exciting for the kids they were led through the rockets at The Kennedy Space Center by Space Trek staff. Then we learnt about spaceflight, past, present and future...The ride on the space shuttle Atlantis made everything seem every real for the children and solidified the whole experience. Both challenging and set to develop an interest in all aspects of Science, Tech and engineering.
Universal studios going behind the scenes at this real film and television studio was a real thrill for everyone on the trip your thrust into the action of your favourite movies. It allows the students to get out of the classroom and bring the education side of film to life!
Boggy Creek, gliding through the wetlands on a beautiful Florida wildlife tour was really special for the children. We saw exotic birds, turtles and the Florida alligator in their own natural environment. For our kids coming from New Zealand it was very exciting to see a real predator up close!
What made this trip so special for you and the pupils?
"The overall organisation of the trip was good. Chris from EA was awesome!"
"The Space Trek element of the space camp was amazing"
"Kara our rep did a great job!"
Trip 3: School: Western Springs | Destination: San Francisco | Silicon Valley | Orlando
Teacher quote: "Biking over the Golden gate bridge was the highlight of the trip – absolutely loved it! Bike company were great" David Okey, Physics teacher
The Golden Gate Bridge is a world renowned landmark that the children recognised. Completed in May 1937 after more than four years of construction and a cost of $35 million. Linking San Francisco with Marin County the 1.7 mile-long suspension bridge crosses the crosses Golden Gate Strait. We were lucky enough to cross the bridge on a bike tour and it really was a wonderful experience.
Arriving at the Google headquarters was a dream come true for a lot of our pupils. It's probably the most exciting and invigorating work space in the world. We're hoping that having the tour and talking to the tech guys has really inspired some of our children to become high achievers in the Technology industry.
Alcatraz Island is the most infamous prison in the United States in the 1920s it became ‘The Rock’ a maximum-security prison housing America's most wanted criminals including Al Capone. Once on the Island and inside the prison our students took the ‘Cellhouse Recorded Tour’ which is both informative, a little scary and sure to put any child off a life of crime!
Please share the general teacher feedback?
"Mike was brilliant again, went the extra mile to help the teachers with the ill kids "

Here at EA we were so thrilled that all 3 New Zealand schools embarked on such different but incredible school trips It was a pleasure working with them and we can't wait to see what they have planned for next year!
